In 1982 Bandai released five handheld LCD games that featured stacked display panels. Instead of a dual-screen device with adjacent screens, they created the Double Panel series with two layered LCD displays; one below the other.
Titles in the Double Panel series were Frankenstein, Terror House, Airport Panic and Amazon(e), which also featured solar power and required no batteries. The fifth game is Zaxxon, licensed by Sega, which was battery operated but also had two layered LCD panels.
I made some photos of the inside of one of these devices, in which you can see the stacked arrangement of the LCD displays.
